Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services has approved the certification of Trainers for nationally recognized prevention training courses, offered in Kansas. The KPC Training Teams are cadres of experienced facilitators of these curricula that meet requirements for continuing education hours for Certified Prevention Professionals. These courses are recommended for professionals with various levels of experience in substance abuse prevention, prevention coalitions, different disciplines, and the public.
These training events are offered by the Kansas Prevention Collaborative multiple times each year and may be offered upon request as schedules allow.
Kansas Prevention Ethics (KPE) is a KDADS-approved, 6-8 hour, in-person or virtual training event based on the Prevention in Ethics course developed by SAMHSA. KPE provides participants with an opportunity to explore the role and application of ethics in prevention programs, practices, and policies. Participants will engage in interactive discussions about the six principles of the Prevention Code of Ethics and will practice applying an ethical decision-making model to assess, address, and evaluate a range of ethical issues.
SAPST is an interactive and engaging training that blends a 26-hour course (in person or online) with a pre-requisite online course, grounded in current research and SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework.
SAPST has been updated by SAMHSA to be more current and relevant to diverse audiences. The course is designed for prevention professionals with 1 to 5 years of experience but is useful and effective for people with decades of related experience and for participants who aren’t prevention professionals. SAPST provides foundational knowledge and skill-building necessary to implement effective, data-driven prevention strategies that reduce behavioral health disparities and improve wellness.
